Communication as a Door-Opener to Research Funding

The training offers an overview of current developments in national and European funding scenarios. The focus is on recommendations for impact-oriented proposal design, including strategies in the areas of “dissemination”, “communication” and “exploitation”.

Recommended duration: 4-6 hours

Target group: Early career researchers who have little experience with impact-oriented research funding, as well as researchers who would like to learn about the new trends in research funding with a focus on open innovation and stakeholder engagement.

Possible Contents

  • Overview of trends in national and European funding scenarios, in particular Horizon Europe, BMBF, DFG

  • Introduction to “impact” oriented proposal design.

  • Practical tips and tricks for writing powerful applications

  • The role of “dissemination” and “exploitation” strategies and engaging stakeholders outside the scientific community in proposals.

  • Introduction to “Open Innovation”: concept, meaning, relevance to research assessment.

  • UNESCO recommendations on Open Science
