“Connect your research to the world” was the topic of a three-part workshop series conducted by city2science at Ruhr University Bochum. The workshops were conducted on behalf of RUB Research School and World Factory and took place in May and June 2021.

Knowledge transfer and collaboration

They focused on knowledge transfer and collaboration with actors from outside of university. Young researchers from all disciplines developed their own ideas and strategies for designing their research together with actors from economy, civil society or policy making. Is my research interesting to others? Might actors from civil society, economy or policy making profit from it? How can I communicate my research and develop new ideas together with them? Next to thematic inputs and discussions about topics like knowledge transfer, science communication and public engagement, the workshops offered interactive exercises for developing relevant skills, including design of individual transfer strategies and analysis of stakeholders. In addition, participants developed concrete formats to engage actors from different areas of society.
