Cooperation Agreement Signed Between the City of Wolfsburg and Ostfalia University
In January 2025, the signing of a groundbreaking cooperation agreement between the City of Wolfsburg and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences marked a significant milestone in the “Zukunftskonzept Wissenschaft in Wolfsburg” strategy process. The agreement lays the foundation for closer collaboration between science and urban development and represents the first tangible success of the strategy process coordinated by city2science. Together with the offices Heinze and Partner and Iris Klassen Science Management, city2science supports Wolfsburg in strategically positioning the city as a city of knowledge and innovation. The concept includes a series of analyses, interviews, participatory workshops, World Cafés, and dialogue-events with stakeholders and decision-makers. Results will be consolidated in a final report.
Science as a Driving Force for Urban Development
The agreement focuses on networking, cooperation, and sustainable structures to enhance Wolfsburg’s scientific landscape. A newly created coordination office at Ostfalia University will serve as a liaison between the city and academia, supporting collaborative projects and initiating new initiatives. The City of Wolfsburg and Ostfalia University will co-finance this position to ensure long-term synergies.
Shaping the Future Together – Closing Event as a Key Milestone
On February 18, 2025, the closing event of the Future Science Concept for Wolfsburg brought together key stakeholders from academia, politics, and local government to discuss strategic focus areas and initial implementation steps. Mayor Dennis Weilmann emphasized the importance of science for Wolfsburg’s future and praised the cooperation agreement as a vital step toward knowledge-based urban development.
With this agreement, the first step has been taken—the implementation of the Future Science Concept is now gaining momentum. Wolfsburg is sending a strong signal for a future in which science and urban development go hand in hand, fostering innovation and strengthening the city’s role as a hub for research and higher education.
